August Macke (1887 - 1914) war einer der bekanntesten deutschen Maler des Expressionismus. Er schuf hunderte Gemälde, die bis heute weltweit in Museen und Ausstellungen Beachtung finden. Seit seiner Kindheit lebte und wirkte Macke in Bonn, mit Ausnahme seiner Studienzeit an der Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf. Dementsprechend ist die Stadt Bonn bis heute stark mit ihm verbunden: Seit 1989 zeichnet die Stadt alle zwei Jahre Künstler mit der August-Macke-Medaille aus, und sein ehemaliges Wohnhaus wurde zu einem Museum umgebaut.

Am 02.09.2018 wurde das Kunstwerk "Hommage an August Macke" von Stephan Balkenhol im Hofgarten unter anderem vom ehemaligen Bundeskanzler Gerhard Schröder eingeweiht. Es steht an der südöstlichen Ecke des Parks in der Nähe des Akademischen Kunstmuseums. Die Enthüllung war Teil des "4. Kunstprojekts Bonn", das von der Stifung für Kunst und Kultur e.V. Bonn organisiert worden ist.

Das Kunstwerk besteht aus einer lebensgroßen Statue von August Macke aus bemalter Bronze sowie einem 4,5 Meter hohen Pavillon. Die Figur Mackes steht unter dem Pavillon und schaut sich das bunte Glasdach an. Dies soll die Beobachtungsgabe Mackes von Licht und Farbe symbolisieren.
August Macke (1887 - 1914) was one of the most famous German painters of Expressionism. He created hundreds of paintings, which are still in worldwide attention in museums and exhibitions. Since his childhood Macke lived and worked in Bonn, with the exception of his studies at the Art Academy in Dusseldorf. Accordingly, the city of Bonn is still strongly associated with him: Since 1989, the city has been honoring artists with the August Macke Medal every two years, and his former home has been converted into a museum.

On 09/02/2018 the artwork "Homage to August Macke" by Stephan Balkenhol was inaugurated in the park Hofgarten among others by former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder. It is located at the southeast corner of the park near the Academic Art Museum. The unveiling was part of the "4th Art Project Bonn", which was organized by the Stifung für Kunst und Kultur e.V. Bonn.

The artwork consists of a life-size statue of August Macke made of painted bronze and a 4.5-meter-high pavilion. The figure of Macke stands under the pavilion and looks at the colorful glass roof. This is to symbolize Macke's power of observation of light and color.
