This sign and map can be found on the edge of a car park serving the nearby tourist attraction of Braemar Castle, just north of the Highland village of the same name on the A93 road. The map covers the area around the village and points out your location by a red circle. The text on the top of the sign reads as follows:

'Braemar gets its name from the Gaelic Bràigh Mhàrr - the upland of Mar. It's the heart of the hill country in the lands once controlled by the Earl of Mar, who built Braemar Castle'

The sign also gives a history of the village, a feature on the Arctic conditions that plague one of the highest villages in Scotland, a feature on clan gatherings, information on St.Andrews Catholic Church in the village, and on Robert Louis Stevenson, who started to write Treasure Island whilst on holiday in Braemar.

Various colour-coded walks are featured on the map around the village, they are:

RIVER DEE - Light Brown (3 miles) A level walk alongside the river to the north of the village.

LION'S FACE and the CROMLINS - Yellow (4 miles) A hilly walk in the high ground to the east of the village.

CREAG CHOINNICH - Red (2 miles) A walk to the summit of the hill, east of the village.

QUEENS DRIVE - Green (2.5 miles) Fairly level walk to the south-east of the village.

MORRONE BIRKWOOD - Blue (2.5 miles) Woodland walk at the foot of the northern slope of Morrone to the west of the village.

MORRONE - Dark Brown (6 miles) Strenous walk to the summit of Morrone, a mountain south-west of the village.

Location Name: Braemar Castle, Braemar, Aberdeenshire.
