The Tunnel Bend diversion tunnel is located near Sheepyard Flat, on the Howqua River. The tunnel is approximately 100 metres long. It was built in 1884, during the Victorian gold rush. Where the water emerged from the tunnel (s37 11.304 e146 22.300) it proceeded down a contour channel (dropping only a few metres in a kilometre) for approx 4km before being used to turn a waterwheel at the ore crushing location
