The Cordell Post Office located at 121 E. 1st Street was constructed with Treasury Department funding in 1937. In the lobby is an oil on canvas mural funded by the WPA. It was painted in 1938 by Ila Turner McAfee.

The mural shows the contrast between America as it was, and as it was becoming. On the right is an Indian on horseback with a wolf walking alongside. In the background there is a tepee. On the left, a horse and rider is shown in front of a wood shack, and alongside a plow. The title "The Scene Changes" is quite poignant.
