"THE CASTLE OF SAUMUR, EMBLEM OF THE CITY OF SAUMUR
Castle-palace of the Dukes of Anjou in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, the Château de Saumur, in which King René resided, is the last example of the princely palaces erected by the Valois dynasty. Residence of the governors of the City, prison, then deposit of arms and munitions, it is bought by the City in 1906 to shelter the municipal museum, today Museum of France.
We discover today the rich collections distributed in the former apartments of the Dukes of Anjou and in the abbey in a didactic museum. On the 1st floor of the monument, you can admire the decorative arts section. Furniture, tapestries and ceramics from the fourteenth to the eighteenth century are on display. In the abbey room, the history of the harness is traced through an exhibition of saddles, bits and stirrups from antiquity to the twentieth century. And always ... an exceptional view of the Loire and the city."

Château-palais des Ducs d’Anjou aux XIVe et XVe siècles, le Château de Saumur, dans lequel a résidé le Roi René, est le dernier exemple des palais princiers érigés par la dynastie des Valois. Résidence des gouverneurs de la Ville, prison, puis dépôt d’armes et de munitions, il est racheté par la Ville en 1906 pour abriter le musée municipal, aujourd’hui Musée de France.
On découvre aujourd'hui les riches collections réparties dans les anciens appartements des ducs d'Anjou et dans l'abbatiale au sein d'une muséographie didactique. Au 1er étage du monument, vous pourrez admirer la section Arts décoratifs. Meubles, tapisseries et céramiques du XIVe au XVIIIe siècle y sont exposés. Dans la salle de l’abbatiale, l’histoire du harnachement est retracée au travers d’une exposition de selles, mors et étriers de l’Antiquité au XXe siècle. Et toujours... une vue exceptionnelle sur la Loire et la ville."
