EN: "Devil" or rotary potato digger, is an older agricultural machine (originally from the 19th century from England) designed for plowing potatoes. .
It works on the principle of a large wheel located in the rear of the machine, which is circumferentially equipped with iron fingers or. paws that rake potatoes out of the ground when they rotate the wheel (they actually spread the potato row). The drive of the working machine is realized by gear bevel gears connected to the rear steel traveling wheels. It is thus actually driven by the machine's own driving in the field. Its main disadvantage is that it leaves potatoes lying in the field and must then be harvested by hand. However, this method of harvesting is more gentle on the harvested potatoes, as there is no major mechanical damage to the tubers.
It is more suitable for farmers with a smaller field area. Larger field areas are harvested using other harvesting machines, eg by different types of potato harvesters.
