The tall mast from the HMAS Sydney supports the Nautical Flagpole to a great height over the north side of Sydney Harbour. There are five external halyard ropes to the flag pole, that are tethered to the low deck. The mast and flagpole appear to finished with the Navy grey. There was only the Royal Australian Navy flag flying when I was there.
While the HMAS Sydney mast was dedicated on November 24th 1934, it is unclear if the Nautical Flagpole was placed at that time. From the low deck that has ready access from the foreshore walk the Bradley Head Lighthouse is clearly visible when looking to 'the Heads'.
