Egyptair Flight 990 was a Boeing 767 ER carrying 203 passengers and 14 crew from New York's La Guardia airport, with a destination of Cairo, Egypt.
The flight had originated in Los Angeles, with a stopover for fuel in New York. The aircraft departed at 0120 EST on 31 October, 1999. Short after, the relief First Officer manually input a steep nose down command, resulting in engine and shortly after, total electrical failure. The aircraft broke apart and entered the water off Cape Cod, MA at about 0157.
