"In Vieil-Hesdin The choir of the church dates back to the 15th century and was once a small chapel dedicated to the" Magdelene ", outside the walls of ancient Hesdin.When this city was demolished in 1553, it was was the only place of worship standing for the inhabitants who had stayed in the area.
The base of the building, the Magdelene Chapel, dates from the fifteenth century and is now the choir of the church.
It is worth seeing for its history, its buildings, its furniture and the relics of Sainte-Colette. When in 1553, Charles V decided to shave the old town, its castle and its ramparts, he spared, as a good Catholic, the church outside the ramparts.
It was much later, in 1874, that the architect Clovis Normand was commissioned to create a bell tower and a nave to make it a communal church.
It had to accommodate not only the population of the village but also that of the three neighboring hamlets.
In September 1944, when the village was liberated, a shell crossed the bell tower, cracking at the same time the bell that had to be rebuilt and reinstalled in 1947. "

" À Vieil-Hesdin. Le chœur de l'église date du XVe siècle et était autrefois une petite chapelle dédiée à la « Magdelene », en dehors des murs de l'ancien Hesdin. Lorsque cette ville a été démolie en 1553, c'était le seul lieu de culte debout pour les habitants qui étaient restés dans les alentours.
La base de l’édifice, la chapelle Magdelene, date donc du XVe siècle et constitue aujourd’hui le chœur de l’église.
Elle vaut le détour pour son histoire, son bâti, son mobilier et les reliques de Sainte-Colette. Lorsqu’en 1553, Charles Quint décide de raser la vieille ville, son château et ses remparts, il épargne, en bon catholique, l’église qui se trouve en dehors des remparts.
C’est bien plus tard, en 1874, que l’architecte Clovis Normand est chargé de créer un clocher et une nef pour en faire une église communale.
Elle devait accueillir non seulement la population du village mais aussi celle des trois hameaux voisins.
En septembre 1944, à la libération du village, un obus a traversé le clocher, fêlant par la même occasion la cloche qui a dû être refondue puis réinstallée en 1947. "
