Milford was a junction town, uniting the mines to the west with the railroad through town. Hotel Atkin was built in approximately 1902 for those travelling through to the mines or working the railroad to Los Angeles or Salt Lake City. When the Horn Silver mine began producing a great amount of silver ore the hotel's name was changed to the Horn Silver. The neon sign reflects the later name but the entrance flooring proclaims the Atkin. The sign on the side of the building is in white letters on a black background and reads Hotel Atkin & Cafe.
It is estimated that the hotel changed names in 1943.
