County of site: Warren County
Location of site: Veterans Memorial Parkway (OLD US 40), next to Denny's, Warrenton
"On Oct. 24, a crew installed bronze statues/display of a mother with her child and the Battlefield Cross, the symbol of a lost soldier, at the Tribute to Veterans Memorial in Warrenton.
"The bronze display, made by Liberty Art Works in Dutzow, is illustrative of a Gold Star family, or a family who lost a relative during wartime.
"Servicemen and servicewomen lost during wartime are exactly who will be honored at the Warren County Tribute to Veterans Memorial, which will be dedicated, at last, in an outdoor ceremony scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4.
"The committee that has been working on the project also planned the presentation. It will include a presentation of the colors, patriotic music, guest speakers, a rifle salute and taps and more.
"The project has been about four years in the making. Every part of it has been organized by volunteers and paid for with donations from Warren County and also the surrounding counties.
"The memorial, which is located on Veterans Memorial Parkway at Market Street, will open to the public following the presentation.
"Organizers said people should plan to come early. Attendees will be positioned in the memorial’s parking lot. Parking is available across the street in the Market Street Shops, Warren County R-III Administration building parking lot or behind the Warrenton Cinema.
"Shuttles will run between these parking areas and the memorial from 1 to 2 p.m. and again after the ceremony. Guests are encouraged to allow enough time for parking and shuttles and dress appropriately for the day’s weather.
"Seating is limited. People who need to sit during the 90-minute or so presentation should bring a folding chair.
"Donations for future expenses are still being accepted." ~ Warrenton Record, By Kate Miller, Oct. 26, 2018
