« C'est Mathurin Moreau qui est le créateur de ces fontaines, l'agencement des sculptures et des ornements revenant à Michel Joseph Napoléon LIENARD.
Neptune est le plus connu des quatre personnages. Comme chacun le sait il était dans la mythologie le dieu des mers et des océans ce qui justifie sa présence sur cette fontaine dédiée à l’univers marin. Galatée était une nymphe marine (Néréide) dont on a pu retenir qu'elle était amoureuse d'un jeune berger Sicilien. Acis était justement dans la mythologie Grecque ce jeune berger amoureux et aimé de Galatée que l'on retrouve à ses cotés sur la fontaine. Son amour pour Galatée causa d’ailleurs sa perte car jaloux, le cyclope Polyphème l’écrasa sous un rocher. Amphitrite est également l’une des Néréides et elle est le quatrième personnage de la fontaine »
