Merimee source:
A city of ancient origins raised to the rank of bastide in 1316, Navarrenx was transformed into a modern, bastioned, Italian-style stronghold. The plans were designed by the Italian architect engineer Fabricio Siciliano from 1538 to 1547, at the request of Henry II of Albret, and made by two masters Bearnmen François Girard and Arnaud de Mirassor. The enclosure has pretty much kept its appearance from the middle of the 16th century. She draws a polygon reinforced at each corner by a bastion with orifices. Of the five bastions, two have counter-clock galleries. At the beginning of the 17th century, construction of the Mouline half moon. Some facilities in the 18th century, including the Porte Saint-Antoine, built in the second quarter of the 18th century by de Salmon. In the 19th century, road works distorted certain elements: destruction of the Porte Saint-Germain, piercing of the curtain Saint-Antoine, ...
