OF THE BIRTH OF
GEORGE WASHINGTON
FEBRUARY 22, 1732
COL. GEORGE WASHINGTON AND HIS SURVIVING PARTY,
AFTER HIDING A BARREL OF FOOD ON BABB'S ISLAND,
CAMPED NEAR THIS SITE. OCTOBER 21, 1770
THIS ENCAMPMENT WAS MADE DURING HIS "TRIP TO THE OHIO"
TO LOOK AFTER LANDS GRANTED TO THE SOLDIERS WHO SERVED
IN THE FRENCH AND INDIAN WAR, AND MARKS HIS FIRST LANDING IN THE GREAT NORTHWEST TERRITORY.
