"This memorial was built as a small shelter with brick walls on either side and a tiled roof. In each wall is an arched 'window' though in place of glass there are wrought iron grills, one with 1914 and the other has 1918, both painted white. Inside the shelter on either side of the windows are brass plaques with the names of Grafton men and women who served in the Great War. The gates themselves are also of wrought iron with MEMORIAL PARK 1936* in white painted lettering." [* Incorrectly ascribed 1933 on the website!]

The broad, brown-tiled, hip-roofed Lychgate is at the entry to Memorial Park, where there is quite a collection of commemorations, for the various conflicts that locals have been involved in. Immediately inside the sides of the Lychgate are four bronze tablets, each with two columns of names of those from Grafton District, who served in 'the Great War'.
