The lychgate has a tiled roof on a wooden framed structure, supported by huge wood pillars. A concrete path proceeds under the lychgate to the Memorial Peace Bells Tower. On the right-hand (eastern side) grey painted, roughly sawn timber lining is a copper plaque, with a brown patina, with the following engraved inscription:

While the first proposal to replace the much smaller wooden church that was on this site was in 1899, it wasn't until after The Great War (WW1) that work began in 1919, and completed in 1926, and dedicated in February 1927. [ex-plaque in Bell Tower] It cost £20,000 to complete [ex-plaque in paving at the intersection.]
