This monument is dedicated to the miners who have lost their lives in the mines of Grande Cache, Alberta.
This black painted steel sculpture of a sole figure raising a large steel I-Beam is mounted on a broad stone platform bearing two plaques containing the names of the miners who lost their lives working in the mines, the emblem of the United Steelworkers of America and a small plaque that reads:
Though the seasons may change and the years pass away,
the remembrance of our brothers and sisters shall never fade.
The work is signed by T.W. Seatle, an artist whose name is unknown to us. It is also dated - 6,9,80.
The Miners Memorial has the names of 28 miners killed between 1969 and 1999 in local coal mines.
