"It commemorates the courage of the Allied troops who participated in Operation Dynamo from May-June 1940.

This work was done by the architect Laprade and the sculptor Ringot. It was inaugurated in 1962. The paving stones of this work come from a dock at the port of Dunkirk. These pavements were trampled by English soldiers at the time of Operation Dynamo.

There is also the coat of arms of Dunkirk (with the lion and the fish). And underneath, a plaque has been added to commemorate the 40th anniversary.

This memorial recalls the courage of the Allied soldiers whose sacrifice to contain the German advance allowed the successful re-embarkation of the Franco-British troops.

Designed in London under the code name "Operation Dynamo", this plan, which started on May 26, 1940, at 18:57, ended on June 4 at 3:40. It allowed the return to England of 338,682 men, including 123,093 French, at the cost of many lives and 243 destroyed boats. "
