Council will also hear from the Deer Park Police Department concerning memorial plaques in Heritage Park, on the grounds of the Municipal Courts/Theater Building. The city's former proposed firing range site on East X Street contained a monument recognizing that location as the Kenneth Gage Firing Range in honor of former Police Chief Kenneth Gage. It is proposed the monument be relocated to Heritage Park in the front of the Courts and Theatre Building, in an area adjacent to several trees that have been planted there in honor of deceased police department employees. The department is also requesting to place a plaque at the base of a tree planted as a memorial to the late Officer Craig Wheelwright. This will be similar to other plaques placed on adjacent memorial trees, and is being donated by Deer Park Funeral Home. Finally, the Department wishes to plant a tree and place an accompanying plaque honoring the late former Police Chief Bill Young. This plaque also is being donated by Danny Duncan of Deer Park Funeral Home.
