La création Éphémère durable, inaugurée lundi, est formée de trois mâts en aluminium sur lesquels trônent des objets moulés en bronze, de taille réelle. Au sommet des mâts, un crâne, un chandelier et un ananas côtoient des livres, une télévision, un trophée et une boule miroir.
L’artiste Mathieu Valade a pensé sa création comme une version moderne des traditionnelles natures mortes. « Ce sont des œuvres qui rappellent l’éphémère – des fruits, des animaux empaillés, des horloges, des chandeliers, illustre l’artiste, pour nous faire sentir le temps qui passe et nous rappeler qu’on est de passage sur cette terre et [que] pendant que vous êtes de passage, c’est le temps de cultiver votre âme ». Le sculpteur a du même souffle voulu faire un clin d’œil à la mission culturelle de la Maison de la littérature.
L’œuvre commandée en 2013 a été réalisée en collaboration avec les Ateliers du bronze, une entreprise d’Inverness au Centre-du-Québec. Il s’agit de la première œuvre publique de l’artiste à Québec. Mathieu Valade en a déjà cinq à son actif, dont à Roberval et à Trois-Rivières.

The creation Éphémère durable, inaugurated Monday, is composed of three aluminum poles on which are objects molded in bronze, of real size. At the top of the masts, a skull, a candlestick and a pineapple sit side by side with books, a television, a trophy and a mirror ball.
The artist Mathieu Valade has thought of his creation as a modern version of the traditional still life. "These are works that recall the ephemeral - fruits, stuffed animals, clocks, candlesticks, the artist illustrates, to make us feel the time that passes and remind us that we are passing through this land and [that] while you are passing, it's time to cultivate your soul. " In the same breath, the sculptor wanted to give a nod to the cultural mission of the House of Literature.
The work commissioned in 2013 was produced in collaboration with the Bronze Workshops, an Inverness company in Center-du-Québec. This is the first public work of the artist in Quebec. Mathieu Valade already has five under his belt, including Roberval and Trois-Rivières.
