A Saint-Cyr-sur-Loire, une sculpture-refuge vient d’être installée dans la vallée très protégée de la Choisille. Un geste à la fois artistique et écologique.
L’objet encore mal identifié répond au nom intriguant d’abri en carbone. Il s’agit en fait d’une sculpture réalisée par l’artiste plasticien François-Xavier Chanioux à la demande du conseil départemental propriétaire de cette vaste étendue de terrains classée « espace naturel sensible » depuis 2006.
L’édifice aux dimensions imposantes (8,20 m de hauteur pour 2,30 m de largeur et 0,70 m d’épaisseur) n’est donc pas seulement un œuvre d’art monumentale.
La tour est également destinée à devenir un refuge et un nichoir pour les chauves-souris, hirondelles et autres martinets noirs nombreux dans ce secteur préservé. « Par cette opération, la collectivité vise […] à permettre à un artiste de réaliser un projet d’une ampleur inhabituelle, faisant sortir l’œuvre de ses lieux traditionnels […], la rendant vivante et habitée par des animaux […] »
François-Xavier Chanioux a travaillé en lien avec la Ligue de protection des oiseaux (LPO Touraine) et un spécialiste des chiroptères.

In Saint-Cyr-sur-Loire, a sculpture-refuge has just been installed in the very protected valley of the Choisille. A gesture that is both artistic and ecological.
The object still badly identified responds to the intriguing name of carbon shelter. It is actually a sculpture made by the visual artist François-Xavier Chanioux at the request of the departmental council owner of this vast expanse of land classified "sensitive natural area" since 2006.
The imposing building (8.20 m high and 2.30 m wide and 0.70 m thick) is therefore not only a monumental work of art.
The tower is also intended to become a refuge and a nesting place for bats, swallows and other black swifts in this preserved area. "Through this operation, the community aims to [...] allow an artist to carry out a project of an unusual magnitude, bringing the work out of its traditional places [...], making it alive and inhabited by animals [...] "
François-Xavier Chanioux worked in association with the LPO Touraine (Bird Protection League) and a chiropter specialist.
