The waterwheel was attached to a water pump which then pumped drinking water up the hill to nearby manor houses. The waterwheel has been restored and fenced off for preservation and protection.

Although this water wheel is available for public display, visitors should be mindful of access rights to the water wheel. Access to the waterwheel is gained through walking through a private garden (where there is access rights).
