The wheel was the primary source of power for the Mill from 1861 until power was connected in 1947.
Water was supplied to the mill from Birch Creek about 1km to the south thru a water race and wrought iron flume.
Power was transmitted thru motion shafts and gears.
The wheel is a 40 horsepower pitchback type.
It is 8.53m (28 ft) in diameter; it has 60 wrought iron buckets 2.21m (7ft 3ins.) in width.
The hubs and shrouds are cast iron.
The spokes are wrought iron.
