Wheal South Crofty Bickford mine. Built around 1850 and operated between 1850 to the early 1900s
The brick topped stack is square and not like the more common circular chimney stacks in this area

The mine was worked until a more profitable shaft was sunk nearby.
As there is no evidence of the large engine houses associated with deep mines. With only the remains of some smaller buildings.
It is possible the chimney was associated with other work processes of mining.
As a thought:-
Close by is a renovated building which was a Miner's Dry, a place where their clothes were dried?
The chimney could have been from the heating the drying rooms??
