The Museum der Arbeit (Museum of Work) in Hamburg-Barmbek has made the transformation of life and work its main theme over the past 150 years. In the exhibitions, themes such as the effects of industrialisation and the resulting changes in social, cultural and economic areas are presented. The museum is an anchor point of the European Route of Industrial Heritage (ERIH).
One focus of the museum is on imparting knowledge to children.
Children up to the age of 18 have free admission to the museum and there are special events and courses in which children can learn historical crafts such as printing, metalworking and the use of an injection moulding machine in old workshops. During the holidays, special children's holiday workshops with changing programme focuses are held.
The only requirement is that the children are not afraid of colourful fingers or old machines.
