"La Journée de l'Europe s'est déroulée samedi, sur l'esplanade de la chapelle Sainte-Marie et le square Jean-Baptiste-Thévenard.
Nevers a célébré pour la troisième fois, la Journée de l'Europe qui a lieu chaque année le 9 mai en référence à la Déclaration du 9 mai 1950, de Robert Schuman, discours considéré comme le texte fondateur de l'Union Européenne.
À cette occasion dix villes jumelées sur les douze que compte Nevers, étaient à l'honneur : Charleville-Mézières, Mantoue, Coblence, Lund, Neubrandenburg, Saint-Albans, Curtea de Arges, Hammamet, Minsk et Siedlce. Toutes ont leur amicale de jumelage à l'exception de deux autres villes qui sont Stavroúpoli en Grèce et Taizhou en Chine.
Un mât des amitiés
Un mât des amitiés a été inauguré, en présence de la députée Perrine Goulet et de Chrystel Pitoun, conseillère municipale déléguée aux jumelages et aux relations internationales. Ses flèches indiquent pour chacune des villes jumelées, sa distance avec Nevers et sa direction. Ce mât sera prochainement installé définitivement dans le jardin du square Thévenard.
Chrystel Pitoun a affirmé que les jumelages étaient « d'incontestables instruments d'apprentissage de solidarité européenne et internationale. » Perrine Goulet a souligné le fait que ces amicales permettaient de « comprendre d'autres cultures et de lutter contre la peur de l'autre. »
