This well now has a steel grate on top to prevent anyone from falling in.

Destroyed by fire
The Stockmar's stone home, at the front of the property, was destroyed by a fire in the 1970's. This is what the man, pointed out as the most knowledgeable of all the worker s here, told me.
The well use to have a roof and draw bucket, when in use by the family, but now that it is part of a city park, super safety measures over take reality.

and 1969 and include the ruins of the Stockmar family house ...

" ... In 1914, A. H. Stockmar purchased the Pine Mountain Gold Mine from
Stone's surviving estate. One year later, he began commercially mining the site using a cyanide
leaching process developed and implemented by Hog Mountain, Alabama, mine-operator T. H. Alrich. Stockmar transferred ownership of the property to his son, Buddy Stockmar, who
oversaw mining operations on the property for the next 21 years.
" ... In 1936, the Stockmar family permanently
ceased their mining operations on the property. During the 1940s the family briefly manufactured "Tblocks" (T-shaped cinder blocks) from mining tailings—a by-product of gold mining involving the use
of cyanide—that were found in great abundance throughout the property. This
