The stone sculpture was created in 1916 by Bernhard Hoetger. To commemorate the Field Marshal Alfred von Waldersee (1832-1904), who once lived in the house opposite. He was Commander-in-Chief of the European troops against the Chinese Boxer Rebellion in 1900/01.
The statue is 4,50m tall and shows Waldersee in his uniform coat. In his right hand he holds a commander's staff and in his left hand a pointing down sign with the inscription "Mit Gott für Kaiser und Reich" ("With God for Emperor and Empire").
