Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The signature spiral design was built in 1959 to display the private collection of old masters once owned by Solomon R. Guggenheim, which he displayed to the public in his apartment in the Plaza Hotel. The museum has been to expanded to exhibit an impressive collection of Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, early Modern, and contemporary art.

According to the UNESCO Would Heritage website (visit link)

"These buildings reflect the “organic architecture” developed by Wright, which includes an open plan, a blurring of the boundaries between exterior and interior and the unprecedented use of materials such as steel and concrete. Each of these buildings offers innovative solutions to the needs for housing, worship, work or leisure. Wright's work from this period had a strong impact on the development of modern architecture in Europe."
