St Maries is a lumber town for as far back as settlement goes. During the 1920s there was a need to build a new elementary school and it was to be designed with the right ideas of the era including having gender defined entrances to the school.
Today you will find women working in the lumber industry, something that didn't happen in the 1920s, and it no longer matters as to your gender which door you enter in by.
