On Tuesday, 02 October 2007, in connection with the ceremonial handover of the public transport terminal at the station forecourt, the artwork "5 Stelae for Gotha" by Prof. Ulf Hegewald from Aachen was unveiled.
On each of the approx. 4 m high stelae made of hard-fired red-brown brick material is a cast bronze sculpture with green patina. The west tower of Friedenstein Castle is depicted, symbolizing the Ekhoftheater, a globe as a symbol for the cartographic history of the city of Gotha, the Rohrbach Observatory represents the history of astronomy, a nautilus housing refers to the art chamber of Friedenstein Castle. The east tower of Friedenstein Castle symbolizes the research library and rounds off the picture.
This selection is intended to welcome visitors arriving by train and arouse their curiosity about the sights in the residence city of Gotha.
