CZ: Svatý Jirí (nar. 275/281 – 23 duben 303) byl podle krestanské hagiografie rímský voják pocházející z Anatolie, dnešního Turecka, který byl uctíván jako mucedník. Je jedním ze ctrnácti svatých pomocníku. Je zvecnen v „legende o sv. Jirí a draku“, kde je vylícen jako drakobijce.
Ve vetšine zemí se svátek svatého Jirí slaví 23. dubna. V ceských zemích, na Slovensku a v Polsku se svátek svatého Jirí slaví až 24. dubna, protože na 23. dubna pripadá den umucení svatého Vojtecha, a tak se svátek svatého Jirí posunul o den pozdeji. Sv. Jirí je patronem skautu, jeho svátek 24. dubna je jeden ze dvou velkých skautských svátku.
Na hranolovém soklu s odsazeným nárožím spocívá hranolový pilír završený mohutnou korintskou hlavicí, na níž je umístena kvalitne remeslne provedená plastika drobných rozmeru, znázornující jezdeckou sochu sv. Jirí zabíjejícího draka. Socha, sokl, i pilír jsou pískovcové. Kopí, trmeny, uzda a podkuvky jsou pozlaceny. Plastika vznikla v 18. století, obnovována byla v 19. století.
Na vysokém sloupu je sv. Jirí v brnení. Sedí na koni se zlatými podkovami. V rukou drží kopí a bodá draka do hlavy.
ENG: St. George (c. 275/281 – 23 April 303) was, according to Christian hagiography, a Roman soldier from Anatolia, today's Turkey, who was worshiped as a martyr. He is one of the fourteen holy helpers. It is immortalized in the "legend of st. George and the Dragon ", where he is portrayed as a dragon-slayer. His memorial is celebrated on 23 April, and he is regarded as one of the most prominent military saints.
On the prismatic plinth with the offset corner there is a prismatic pillar topped by a massive Corinthian warhead, on which is placed a well-crafted sculpture of small dimensions, depicting the equestrian statue of st. George the killing dragon. The statue, plinth, and pillar are sandstone. Spears, stirrups, bridles, and horseshoes are gilded. The sculpture was created in the 18th century and was renewed in the 19th century.
