Since 1993, the city of Gotha in Thuringia and the city of Gastonia in North Carolina have been twinned.
On the occasion of a visit by the mayor and a delegation from Gastonia on 2 May 2004, the oversized bench was handed over and set up on the eastern shore of the Siebleber pond near an existing seating group.
A small plaque on the bench reads: Anläßlich eines Besuches von Gästen aus Gothas Partnerstadt Gastonia (USA) am Siebleber Teich. Siebleben, den 03.05.2004
