Mittlerweile haben sich mehr als 60 Promis für die „Hands of fame“ in Wittmund verewigt.
Es waren zwei „verrückte“ und engagierte Gastwirte in Wittmund, die den Grundstein für diese Idee legten. Sie nutzten einen Besuch des Musikers Achim Reichel im Frühjahr 2005 in Wittmund. Damit war die Idee für einen „Präsidentenplatz“ geboren, der inzwischen das Herzstück von „Hands of fame“ bildet.
Nach dem Bundespräsidenten-Platz plant „Hands of Fame“ auch einen Platz für die deutschen Bundeskanzler. Die Handabdrücke von Helmut Schmidt und Gerhard Schröder liegen bereits vor. Vor eineinhalb Jahren sah der Verein die Chance, ebenfalls die Abdrücke von Bundeskanzlerin Angela Merkel während eines Wahlkampf-Besuchs in Neuharlingersiel abzunehmen. Doch die CDU-Politikerin, die im Vorfeld ausführlich von "Hands of Fame" über das Projekt informiert worden war, zierte sich: Sie wolle ihre Handabdrücke erst dann abgeben, wenn sie nicht mehr im Amt ist.
