Organ reputedly by Father Smith installed in the gallery here with additional
pipework by Holdich; cost £123;

1896           Nicholson & Co  Worcester

Restored, (presumably Nicholson also undertook its reconstruction and
enlargement recorded in the Church Guide the following year -Ed);

1961           Hawkins & Co

Overhauled;

1976           Unknown

Church Guide states that 3 ranks of pipes (112 pipes) added at this date;
(not clear which - Ed);

Pieces of dark oak (also gilded cherub on choir screen) could be by Smith!
Church Guide states: "in the casework is carved St. Eata - Laudate Dominum; the
figures and faces are unrecorded; two angels with shields flank the cornice
above these figures and surmounting the whole, towering into the roof space,
are three more figures of angels";

Church Guide leaflet has: "In Eddowe's Shrewsbury of 13 January 1858 there is an
account of the opening of the organ: "the want of such an accessory to the due
performance of divine worship has long been felt.....a very beautiful instrument
having a sweet and powerful tone, was purchased at a cost, after some
careful alterations, of £123"; also the Post Office Directory for Shropshire
for 1870 records "in the gallery there is a fine-toned organ built by Father
Schmidt"; FJ"
