Friedrich_Schiller (1759–1805) is considered one of the two most famous and most influential German poets.

One of the busts in Potsdam's Dichterhain (Poet's Grove) depicts the famous poet.

Main Belt Asteroid 3079 Schiller was discovered on September 24, 1960 by Dutch astronomers C. J. van Houten and I. van Houten-Groeneveld after investigating photographic plates taken by Tom Gehrels and named after the poet.

Please note that the lunar crater Schiller is NOT named after the poet but after astronomer Julius Schiller.
