Confucius (551–479 BC) was a Chinese teacher, editor, politician, and philosopher and one of the most influential persons in Chinese and world history.

A brass bust of the philosopher is located in front of the Chinese School in the small town of Locke.

Main belt asteroid 7853 Confucius was discovered on Jan. 29, 1973 by Dutch astronomers C. J. van Houten and I. van Houten-Groeneveld and named after the philosopher.
