This tall steel tower is the 'AM' Transmitter Tower for the Australian Broadcasting Company (ABC) near Manilla.

The 2NU transmitter opened on Tamworth Road, in 1948 [ex: (visit link) ] The name of Tamworth Road was changed to Fossickers Way in 1973. There had been controversy over the 'call-sign' for 2NU in 1954, which was being broadcast as "2NU Tamworth". The local council wanted a bit more representation of the diverse nature of the land it was reaching, especially as it was being broadcast 'from' Manilla. The suggestion was: "ABC Regional Station 2NU, Manilla, broadcasting from our Tamworth studios." The proposal was turned down. [ex-Trove, copy of 'Manilla Express', 19 November, 1954: (visit link) ]
