Captured and Recaptured Machine Gun
The Germans captured this machine gun from the Russians on the Eastern Front and used it against Canadians while defending Vimy Ridge.
The Canadian 54th Battalion captured the gun on April 7, 1917 in its attack up the heights towards Hill 145. Note the evidence of bullet strikes on the armoured shield.
