Long Description:
From an information panel on site:

The "RAT"

The Remote Articulated Vehicle, or "RAT", was one of several experimental oversnow vehicles developed for the Canadian Forces to enhance mobility in the North in both winter and summer conditions.

The Canadian military acquired 24 RATs from Canadair of Cartierville, Quebec, in 1959. This version could be dropped from an aircraft. It could carry 270 kilograms of cargo, and tow infantry sleds in norther operations. The Black Watch of Canada used RATs during the 1966 Operation Mobile Express in Norway, part of Canada's preparations to rapidly deploy forces to defend NATO's northern flank with seven days.
