The inscription reads -
Near this place are deposited the remains of
the Reverand John Fitz-Herbert M.A.
second Son of William Fitz-Herbert
of Tissington in this County Esqr
He was Vicar of this Church for 39 years,
in which he delivered the momentous doctrines of Christianity
with a peculiar propriety and affecting energy.
His life was an example of the virtues he recommended
for his heart was perfectly sincere to God and Man
and his actions such as naturally flowed
from the purest principles of piety, justice, and charity.
He departed this life on the 19th of July 1785,
in the 68th year of his age.
HE married SUSANNA, the younger daughter and Coheiress of
RICHARD PEACOCK, late of Rodsley in this County Gentleman.
She died on the 27th of November, 1786, Aged 57 years:
And her Remains are interred in this Place.
