Great Easter Ramp

This is a rare specialized engineering tank developed during the Second World War to help vehicles drive over barriers such as walls. This vehicle is one of 10 Churchill tanks converted by the Royal Engineers to become engineering assault vehicles. Named the Great Eastern Ramp, the tank was designed to deploy a heavy roadway that would allow other vehicles to drive over obstacles. This example was one of two Great Eastern Ramps sent to Canada for further testing in 1946. In 1972, the Canadian War Museum purchased this vehicle from a scrapyard in Kemptville, Ontario.
