The November Revolution of 1918/19 in the final phase of the First World War led to the overthrow of the monarchy in the German Reich and its transformation into a parliamentary democracy, the Weimar Republic.
On November 5, 1918, the Revolution reached Hamburg. Soldiers' councils were founded, which took power, but only for 7 days. The insurgents killed in this uprising and the resulting clashes and shootings were buried here in the cemetery.
