Custer started becoming the service centre for the farming communities around it when the Great Northern Railway was built in the late 19th century. By the 1920s its importance had grown as both Main and Bruce streets, where this church is located, was surfaced in concrete on the highway linking Bellingham, Washington to Vancouver, British Columbia. The prosperity had continued for the community when the Custer State Bank was established.
Today, the church continues to serve the community with services on Sunday mornings.
