Alongside Forest Service Rd. 349 is this opening to an old mine shaft. The roof and sides have been propped up with timbers and the opening has been closed with bars. The bars allow enough space for bats to fly in and out but restrict human access. The general area around Miami is rich in copper deposits but there haven't been any successful mines in this particular area. This may be an example of someone's failed dream of success.
