When traveling from Sinton, TX toward Victoria, TX on US-77, upon entering the City of Refugio, US-77 is called S. Alamo Street. Continue on S. Alamo Street for two blocks until you reach the intersection with E. Empressario Street. Turn right onto E. Empressario and then turn left at the end of the block onto Commerce Street (Yes, it is a quick zig-zag around the block!). Park on either side of the street in front of the Refugio County Courthouse. The Sally Scull historical marker is on your left when facing the courthouse and is the closest to the street. The address of the Refugio County Courthouse is 808 Commerce Street, Refugio, TX.

 Marker Text: Women rancher, horse trader, champion "cusser." Ranched Northwest of here. In Civil War Texas, Sally Scull (or Skull) freight wagons took cotton to Mexico to swap for guns, ammunition, medicines, coffee, shoes, clothing and other goods vital to the Confederacy. Dressed in trousers, Mrs. Scull bossed armed employees; was sure shot with the rifle carried on her saddle or the two pistols strapped to her waist. Of good family, she had children cared for in New Orleans school. Often visited them. Loved dancing. Yet during the war, did extremely hazardous "Man's Work".
