Former CN boxcar 79034 was constructed as a wood boxcar in March 1918 by "NSC" (presumably National Steel Car in Hamilton Ontario). It has was previously numbered as CN Box Car 402072 and CNR Box Car 80144. It was converted to an end cupola caboose in 1956.
The caboose was donated by CN in Edmonton to the Town of Athabasca in 1985. This is its third location in Athabasca, being moved to the current location in 2010.
Presently the caboose is on display beside the former CN railway station in Athabasca, Alberta. It was formerly used as a tourist information booth - it is unclear if the caboose is still used for this purpose.
