This frame church, built in 1899, has a typical bell tower...square over the lobby, with a skinny steeple mounted above.
The church, and cemetery behind and west of the main building, is an old plot. The cemetery dates from late 1890s and have many hand made tombstones.
Cemetery contains over 650 grave sites.
"It [Truxton] had two churches, Methodist Episcopal and Lutheran, a high school, steam saw mill and grist mill, a newspaper, the "Republican", a hotel, and about fifteen stores, shops, etc. Population, 1899 (estimated) 250." ~ Encyclopedia of Missouri, 1901, Conard, Vol. VI, 224.
This United Methodist Church operated for many years...since 1899, but falling attendance, and people moving from the farms to the cities...they finally closed. I am not sure of the exact date, but when I visited in summer of 2018, it was closed, and now used as a cemetery chapel.
