Located in Harbourside Park, overlooking St John's Harbour, are the statues of a Labrador Retriever and a Newfoundland dog. Cast in bronze over a stainless steel frame, the one-and-a-half life sized dog statues at Harbourside were completed in 2003 by artist Luben Boykov. He created a second set of the statues in 2008; that pair is located on Signla Hill (Waymarked as ADD). I think the dogs at Harbourside face towards the ones on Signal Hill, and I suspect that the dogs on Signal Hill stare back towards their counterparts at Harbourside.
Boykov used real dogs as models while preparing these statues: Abraham, a Newfoundland dog, and Hudson, a Labrador retriever.
