Bellevue Borough's huge sign along Route 65 is somewhat of a Pittsburgh icon.

The Borough of Bellevue is just north of the City of Pittsburgh, and is reached most directly via Route 65, Ohio River Boulevard. About 9,000 residents and a bustling business district are packed into the Borough's one square mile of hills and valleys.

The welcome sign is pure Pittsburgh kitsch. Somewhat to my surprise, no explanation for the sign is given on Bellevue Borough's official website, although it is mentioned on the page giving directions on how to get there. But there's plenty of other references if you do an internet search.

This local icon was once even submitted as a virtual cache. It was rejected, of course. Thank goodness that waymarking can feature a funky sign like this for those who are interested in seeing such things.
